Stunning Kalapaki Beach, on Hawaii’s “garden island”, is the setting for the spacious yet cozy, opulent Kauai Marriott Resort & Beach Club. Cliffs line one side of the property, and on the other, beyond the water to Nawiliwili Harbor, mountains rise up from the ocean to frame this lively vacation paradise. Built in the style of a Hawaiian palace, the resort’s gardens, landscaping, exterior décor and 26,000 square foot swimming pool are of a caliber suitable for guests of royal stature. After an obligatory escalator ride down to the reception area where the hotel’s buildings, pools, and restaurants can be accessed, guests delight in the discovery of an intimate enclave. Breezeways and elevated walkways provide them with an exciting first impression as they make their way to their bright south-pacific inspired guestroom.

As inviting and comfortable as the rooms are, however, the lure of the Hawaiian climate, sunshine and surf invariably leads the visitor out-of-doors. Whether you choose to spend time by the large flower shaped pool, in one of the many whirlpools or hot tubs, or on the white sandy beach, Hawaiian style relaxation is assured. Choose to sip tropical drinks poolside, or refresh yourself swimming under one of the pool’s fountains.

Excitement fills the air at the beach, where surfers, locals, and hotel guests enjoy the water with equal enthusiasm. After watching the surfers for a while you will be ready for your own board as you sign up for surfing lessons, offered right on the beach by the esteemed Kalapaki Beach Boys. Kalapaki Beach is one of the safest places to learn to surf in Hawaii. Enthusiasts of other outdoor sports will find biking and jogging trails, kayaking, sailing, horseback riding, and rock climbing; all of these activities can be enjoyed nearby. Two beautifully-landscaped 18-hole golf courses, the Kiele Course and the Mokihana Course, provide ample challenges for a thrilling game matched by spectacular views.

The resort takes on a special glow at sunset, when guests can choose one of several fun places to enjoy dinner. At Duke’s Restaurant, the goodwill of famed Hawaiian surfer, spokesman and Olympic gold medalist, Duke Kahanamoku, lives on. Fresh seafood and steaks are served with local flavors in an exotic atmosphere in the spirit of hospitality, ensuring an enjoyable time. At the Romantic Café Portofino, guests can choose to dine on fine Italian cuisine, served al fresco by torchlight. Sample fresh sushi at the Aupaka Terrace and marvel at the selection of interesting offerings of the Japanese wine, sake. The excellent sushi chef will advise you on which sake will best complement your dining experience. The breakfast and lunch buffet and the Pacific Rim dinner buffet at Kukui’s are as tempting as the selections are enticing. Conclude your evening with an oceanfront stroll to nearby shopping areas, or enjoy cocktails or dessert at one of the terrace lounges overlooking the pool and bay.
